Apparat
Continuing my flirtatious obsession with all things techno and trance at the moment, I learn that Apparat (Sashca Ring), has released a remix of Moby’s Pale Horses. I don’t like Mody and have been quite apprehensive about german techno in the past, but this remix is absolutely stunning – it’s bass heavy, the sound is eerie and ominous, full of Apparat’s signature intense, ambient emotive style, a design of sound that can rip you fully apart.

You will remember him as part of Moderat, the band that was in 2002 and then split like an atom to give birth to Modeselektor and Apparat. Modeselektor is most memorable for their 2007 The White Flash collab with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.

Enter Ellen Allien, Berlin’s techno DJ / producer supremo. She runs her own BPitch Control label and in a collabrative effort with Apparat in 2006, released the acclaimed and astonishingly beautiful, Orchestra of Bubbles. This album took my breath away.

Apparat is currently on tour with the rest of Moderat, after apparently reforming, for their much delayed self-titled debut album, released in April 2009 on BPitch.
