press fire

So while I was stuffing my face with chips (fries) and cheese, this got dropped in my inbox. Now I’m not the sort of person to just blindly copy and paste everything a press release says into a post without even listening to the song or at least read up about the band. Anyway, somewhere in it, were mentions of Kap Bambino and comparisons toLes Georges Leningrad.
And I’m like, “Really?”

This refers to The Press Fire! (TPF!) and apparently they’ve just released their first EP like two weeks ago or something. TPF! sound like a more-dance-less-punk American version of The Sceptres, actually come to think of it, its kinda similar to Glasgow’s Fangs.
Merisa Libbey does the whole ballsy cute femme vocals thing, instantly elevating an otherwise typical band into one that demands your attention. I’ve always said that to do disco-punk right, especially this kinda disco-punk you either have to get a female vocalist or an ex-emoband hipster boy on the microphone. (Think the Ghost Frequency)

BUT to be entirely honest, I wasn’t blown away by Hard To Break, its your standard synth-heavy dance-punk track reminiscent of early The Faint. Hipster Crickets on the other hand is fucking awesome, especially that math-y bit at the end – I love it. I fucking love it. Its dirty, its punk, more Spinnerette than fucking Kap Bambino.
Keep a look out for this Los Angeles lot. I’ve got a feeling they’re onto something quite promising.
