In the mood for something else altogether different now.
Last Friday, I went to see Divorce play at the Common Place. The last time I saw them was at a shitty venue a few months back (The Library if anyone wants to know). The soundsystem there was shit, the place was shit. It didn’t do their sound any justice. At the Common Place, they totally KILLED. Divorce are from Glasgow and their music is what they call “a nae-wave domestic dispute.” And it pretty much sounds like that. Making noise and making it good.
Imagine DFA records on a rage, very much like DNA, Suicide, Teenage Jesus and The Jerks.
However, the band that I wanted to talk about is Ultimate Thrush, also from Glasgow and to be entirely fair, they stole the show, for me. Ultimate Thrush – how do I explain this: DIY till death, math-core? Screamy technical mess? They don’t even have a bassist! They are so fucking awesome live, it’s ridiculous. No rockstar bullshit. No guitar wankery. Just straight up short, fast, blasts thrown in with a bit of southern rock ala Everytime I Die and then think After School Knife Fight, The Number 12 Looks Like You, The Locust without the bleepy-ness???? This shit is fucking insane.
And check this out: I bought their CD in this neat little package thing and this is what’s inside it:
Awesome hand screenprinted artwork. Every CD has its own design. I was totally geeking out when I got it and opened it at home.
[Ultimate Thrush - EP Teaser]
[Ultime Thrush - S/T] Download the full 11 track cd + artwork and stuff. Of course, it’s not as awesome as actually buying it and having the beautiful stuff in your own hands. I got it at the gig itself and I actually cant find anywhere else that sells this. You might have to contact them.

I popped over here from The Steinberg Principle to see what all the fuss was about and well… while the music is awesome (tho I'm not hearing anything "mathy" about it, it's all typically rhythmic and not very discordant, I'd agree with it being an assault to the senses, vocally. But then I never did understand the whole screamo turn in punk music. To each his own… I'm off to see Cock Sparrer perform tonight, call me a granny, it's ok, xoxo :)
