the amplifetesUsually there are 15 other press releases waiting to get my attention but the moment I saw The Amplifetes‘ press pack, I had to blog this one up straight away, and I’m gonna take my time with this. First of, it’s because I have a deep love for Swedish bands. Just biased like that. Second of all, this isn’t your typical mindless indie band.

This is pop with sense. Not the average, mediocre toss that gets churned out and pushed at you by some glossy mag.
On first listen of Whizz Kid, you’re confronted with lyrics like: “Easy rider, kafka kubrick… Rolling stone, Bukowski, gremlins” backed by an effortlessly catchy guitar hook. Feeling the Elvis Costello influences here. I was trying to do something else while listening to this, like going on http://www.pokerblog.com, couldn’t concentrate, tried not to bop to this. It didn’t work.

And then, naturally expecting the same sort of style, I get hit instead by something altogether different with It’s My Life. Suddenly the disco balls roll in, the synths stab you into a frenzied footwork and the chorus punches you right in the gut.

We’ve got some exclusives from their press folks, apparently these lovely 320s have never been given away before. The Blende remix is SICK! I’m like: HOW COME I’VE NEVER HEARD OF BLENDE? The synthwork in this track is insane! Insistent moog gracefully giving way to Justice-esque echoe-y vintage analog synths when you list expect it!
