At first, I thought, what an unfortunate name. Their press people kept hounding me about these guys. Then they sent me their ep Urgency and I was like, honestly blown away. In fact as I write this, my hairs are standing on end.
Superhumanoids is this LA band riding this new wave of nostalgia currently coming out of the states at the moment (think The Drums). I heard Persona and I’ll be damned if nobody detected any New Order. The demo version of Persona makes it even more so. The eerie synths and the vocals explodes into a Bernard Sumner guitar riff. It’s not dark at all, it’s like a song of triumph but through a filtered and warm-lensed view, so that every thing appears dreamy.
And I’m floating.
Cranial Contest is another track that bursts into color with its definite neu! vibe, Strokes-ish guitars, that lifts into a plinky, echo-y-reverby twangy goodness. Is that a Dane Electro? Coz I have a mate who insists that Danes are best for this kinda sound. (This is not a product placement) Anyway-
Hey Big Bang switches into total 80s bliss and in Simple Severin, more of that Peter Hook bass, vocals a cross between Morrissey and that guy from Belle & Sebastian means…
OHMYGOD I LOVE THIS BAND!
Here are a couple of tracks, early recordings of two of the songs that will appear in Urgency, their debut UK release that will be out on 12th of July through Hit City USA.
Don’t be stupid and fucking listen to this!
