coastingThe moment I heard Coasting, the comparisons to Finally Punk, the Dum Dum Girls and Vivian Girls come to mind. I have friends who went to see the Dum Dum Girls at the Brudenell Social in Leeds and the one word that keeps comin up is that the Dum Dum Girls are stuck-up “knobheads“. I haven’t met Coasting in real life but their email to me reveals a lot: Fiona and Madison seem, feel, look and sound like nice people! And I like nice people!

[Coasting - Kids]

Coasting is this Brooklyn duo’s lo-fi blissed out surf punk project. It’s simple, straight forward DIY fun. Fuzzy guitars on echo and one hell of an awesome drummer. (Fiona was the ex-drummer for New Zealand’s The Coolies). At times reminding me of early Sleater Kinney in songs like Snoozefest and in Kids, the ending is totally grunged out. It’s really a band that, you know, indie-schmindies will love just as much as unhip folks like us do. Coasting makes me feel like it’s 1994 again – going to gigs coz it was fun and you don’t care.

They’ve sent over 2 traxx for the blog, check it:
