losFirst of all, do not be fooled by that seemingly wholesome image. London’s LOS describe themselves as “an obscure mental band” but even that does not come remotely close to the immense intensity of their live shows. Its drums, guitars and a moog. No bass. At the show I went to last night in Leeds, they were dressed all in black and I was expecting some sort of crust punk band or something.

But then the moment the first riff starts, you know you’re in for hell of a ride. It was one of the hottest summers ever and the venue was choking with heat. The band was covered in sweat. Fingers danced on fretboards to blues-y rock ‘n’ roll before diving straight into heavy chaotic chords. I caught a whiff of The Yeah Yeah Yeahs (it can’t be helped. The guitarist was like some kinda long-haired punk version of Nick Zinner), the mayhem reminded me of At The Drive In.

And yet, LOS is still 100% DIY, from their screenprinted and own-designed tees and cds which I bought, to their music and videos. Small band, BIG sound.

I danced and flailed, was sure the aches and pain the next day will be worth it. Then I stared intently at the drummer. At some point I was screaming. Sometimes I was speechless.
Another plus point? They are like the most friendliest and awesomest band ever. I met them after their set and they were like SUPER nice.
