The minute I listened to this, I know what these guys are trying to get at. You Need It! are a buncha guys from Essen City in Germany and honestly, they’ve got an awesome awesome forward-thinking kind of sound. While everyone else is clamouring to be part of the genre du jour of the moment: surf-y, beachy and bleached out, You Need It! goes one step further into lounge / exotica territory.
Yes, and by that I mean xylophones, chilled out tropical beats, a bit of twinkly funk and sleazy muted guitar solos. I mean these guys are all about the girls, cars and the beach and they aint gonna hide it so why not sing about it. In the track Girls, the vocals are Prince-esque. It’s slowmotion sex.
So while you’re still tryin to start a party in Miami beach, we’ve moved on to Cafe Del Mar, sippin a martini.
