You know, I actually met up with this fella a week back. Just to chat about this new clubnight he’s doing in Leeds with Louis Saville. More on that exciting stuff later. Now we’re going to talk about Jamie Grind himself.
Now, the “sound” – very obviously garage, and its easy to move from garage to dubstep but there’s also elements of house – nice touch. You have to know though, that this IS a progressive sound, it’s the sophomore initiative to move away from the immature dubstep of today- overdone wobbly, predictable drops and destroyed by the americans the moment they touched it with commercial, unimaginative american-style hip hop. (Feel the same way? Check out the ace Microclinic I featured a coupla months back)
Grind’s taken a refined step forward with the offtimed, jittery percussions, firm groove punctuated by synthesized string stabs, and a clean and precise beat. Gritty.
