I am swept out to sea. Waves upon waves of electronic drone crashing into a searing wall of noise. The noise is subtle, distant, it is the backdrop where the swirling vocals and guitars ebb and flow.
Meet To The Happy Few, 3 guys (sometimes 4) based in France. You might be able to compare them to The Big Pink, but then, not quite.
The electronics play as much as an important role as the echo-ing guitars. The speed is slow, but the point is that even though you are made weightless while listening to this, there is still as much depth. Guide My Eyes borders on pop, but don’t be misled and listen out for the waves at the back and the shredding guitars.
To The Happy Few have got some pretty sweet released out on clear vinyl via the amazing SVN SNS records. If you are not acquainted with SVN SNS yet, now is the time to check out this young label. They put out some pretty amazing bands on vinyls and tapes.
