What Stephen Farris (aka Cosmic Sound, also of Ghost Mountain ) does, in a nutshell, is recycle old, nearly disintegrating VHS tapes rescued from charity stores and then somehow cutting up, extracting and arranging the visuals and mostly the sound into his music. Like Gold Panda, just more 8 bit. And unlike Hudson Mohwake or AEED, this Houston, Texas native is not as polished – the attraction is in the raw bedroom-produced fuzziness, almost lo-fi but not quite.

Cant decide if Dust Rewinder or Night Owl is my favorite. The 80s synths and vintage pads sampled from the videos are very authentic. And some of you chillwave suckers may fall for Bright Beaches. There’s so many textures, like in Little Flower: near Radiohead/Gorillaz-esque indie, pop and hip hop electronica all rolled into one hell of a unexpectedly catchy tune.
