Went to see MEN perform at The Brude last Wednesday. It was right after work, so I wasn’t feeling my best. But that all soon changed after people started streamin’ in – it wasn’t as busy as I would have expected, but we all thought it was better that way coz we got to be closer with the bands.
Pifco and Cissy opened for MEN, I’ve never seen Pifco before but thoroughly enjoyed their stripped down, jumpy set. Cissy was awesome as usual, they were tight that night, it’s like seeing them for the first time all over again.
And then JD strolled past us and started setting up, they’ve got this amazing painting they brought along. I’ve got a close-up picture below. They started off with Off Our Backs, I used to listen to Le Tigre and hadn’t really followed up with MEN prior to this gig but damn that was such a fucking awesome song. By the middle of the set, we were part dancing / part moshing in the nicest way possible. It was a relatively short set, approx 30mins, we screamed at them to come out for an encore and they did. Oh and Jonny Strangeways let me grab a MEN poster off a wall.
Really awesome night.
