I contacted S.C.U.M‘s press people last year before Christmas, asking for some press material about them. And they never got back to me. They didn’t have to really, I can understand how PR folks love to pick and choose their publications. Perhaps preserving some form of exclusivity. Maybe “too busy”.
Such a shame. I can be “too busy” too.

S.C.U.M’s released something back in March, I didn’t catch on, I know this post’s too late for it but I don’t care. Maybe that’s the deal, the shrouding of one’s self in secrecy somewhat builds up this kind of hard-to-encounter hype. In a way I can understand that – there’s too many hyped-up bands with no substance these days. Or maybe I live under a rock. Some people call that “pretensious-ness”. I call that… integrity?
Songs like Paris hold so much emotion in the moody synths, quiet whispered hums, and the swirling feedbacked guitars. It’s like listening to the sound of lost youth through a seashell picked up from the beach. Warsaw‘s brash, cold, distorted vocalsĀ and percussions nearly These New Puritans-like. Berlin was even darker, no boundaries.
Art goth. Post-punk. Industrial?
It’s that time of the year again, it’s like the winter beckons us to desire for colder sounds. I’m gonna put on my Joy Division records again.
