SubmerseCheshire based DJ/Producer Submerse strikes me as something completely unique from the current breed of future/garage revival DJs. Further digging around reveals that he has a love for J-pop (Japanese Pop) but not in a strange way – he’s managed to combine elements of J-pop, bass and garage into a totally new pioneering genre: J-Garage. Whilst usually I would be skeptical of self-coined genre labels simply because they tend to be all hype and no substance, Submerse’s sound is tight and spot on. You hardly even notice theĀ  vocals are in a totally different language. And it’s a clever venture because he’s now preparing to bring this over to clubs in Japan.

On the UK garage front, he’s just as sharp: that remix of Primary 1′s Never Know is absolutely lush and the remix he did of Berry by Hissy Fit is a really great example of smoothly fitting in crisp fresh beats and a bit of dark synths around the soulful vocals, starts off slow and then moving into club territory.

Visit the Maltine Records page here for more Submerse.

If I were you I’d also check into the Future Garage forum to download his Alone Without You winter mix. It’s dark, brooding and depressing. Perfect!
