Feel like I’m going through a bit of a musical funk at the minute. My skanking tanks are pretty much rinsed out for at least another week, which includes grimey wobbles and bass. I cannot stand any of what is going on in the mainstream charts bar maybe a couple of singer songwriters hither and tether. So I find myself lost, cold, turned on and delirious beneath a swathe of unwanted music trying to crawl or pry open my ears and force their way in. During this trying time, perhaps one what I might look back on and refer to it as “an important moment” thus far profoundly pointless existence, I stumbled across an old man, an old soul man, a man with a scratchy ass voice, a man who I imagine being able to weave a glorious and gripping tail out of a slow walk down the road to buy fags and a box of matches. More on him later.
Lets deploy the slightly bass faces first of all, but make sure you keep the euphoric rave at hand as Goiem is an untypical bass master. I’m enjoying how the whole UK scene seems to be leaning toward a broader genre of bass music rather than something being exclusively dubstep, garage or whatever. Golem does a stand up offer of encapsulating that, being able to hear obvious 2step, garage, reggae, and dubstep influences throughout his sets. I like it. I hope it continues and I hope you like it.

The man, the old man, with the scratchy voice below is the one I so excitedly spurted about earlier. This man is an absolute legend of Soul Music, he goes by Bobby Womack. Having been in the industry since 1950 he found solo fame only in 1980 with album “Poet” and “Poet II”. You are bound to know many of the songs he has written as they have been covered by the likes of the Rolling Stones and The Mamas and Papas. He’s one of these dudes you expect to see out on a porch in a rocking chair, smoking a pipe cheekily laced with weed, looking so content with his life and no reason to frown in the world.

The fame Diplo has found I’d imagine even surprised him. No one could argue he is pretty faking cool, even if he did do a blackberry add, and produce a single for that strawberry blonde chick out of Girls Aloud, and also possibly most unforgivably, produced that Swagger Jaggy tripe from Lloyd whets her face off x-factor. In spite of these things he is still quite cool, maybe because he can admit all those things are shit and he did it for the money, so you know, fair enough. Regardless of life choices he still plays a pretty amazing DJ set. Check out his set from Koko, in London below. Pure party tunnnnessss
