Gonna break up my synth theme this week with some straight up guitar rock by 2 bands from Manchester, Sex Hands and Daily Life. Sex Hands is in actual fact 3/4 Welsh and only 1/4 Mancunian. Daily Life on the other hand, decided to go on a temporary hiatus by the time this release came out because one of em decided to move to New Zealand.
Sex Hands comprise of members from Klaus Kinski, Irma Vep, and Waiters and they sound like a mob up to no good, essentially, loud fuzzed-up garage rock, shouty vocals, everything in lo-fi, almost veering into absolute shambolic disorder. It’s like going a karaoke bar with a buncha drunk guys, everyone shouting into the mic together “ICHIBAN FOR MEN! ICHIBAN FOR MEN!”. And that’s their aim I think, to be as chaotic and fun as possible without sounding like shit or taking themselves too seriously. Contrast that with the more reverb-ed / jangly, summer-friendly pop sounds of Daily Life and you’ve got an ace 12min player in your hands.
Fans of bands like Male Bonding, Crocodiles and others of that ilk will like this.
